Jim Dowd presided over the Parent's Meeting, with 14 parents present.
Minutes from February are posted on the website. No corrections were made.

Treasurer's Report from Leslie Thorpe. Copies of her reports were distributed. Motion made by Bob Shages, second by Vicky Rogers, to contact TRRA and Dibble asking to extend payment terms to ease our spring cash flow shortages. Motion carried. Barry Rogers to contact TRRA; Jim Dowd to contact Dibble.

Anti-Tobacco Campaign (Cary Montgomery of HCA) was discussed. This was a possible fundraiser for individual rowers. Kathy Schofield to contact Mr. Montgomery to discuss our participation. 

Night at Races was a success. Good time had by all. Suggestions for next event include possible November date and Chinese Auction items. 

Boat Transportation: Susie Shages will be traveling to Columbus this wkend to pick up boat. If no one is traveling to Philadelphia area, Jim Dowd will travel there wkend of 3/21 to pick up oars.

Middle School Dance: Bob Shages reported on plans for Dance. Coolers are needed before Friday 3/21, adults are needed as chaperones and rowers are also encouraged to attend. Please pass the news to all Middle School students. 

Practice times and release of rowers were discussed. Areas of concern were: 1) kids driving in winter weather, 2) kids and homework, 3) Modeling time management 4) inconvenience to parents. Any parent wishing to express their concerns are to contact Jim Dowd, in person or via email. 

The spring race schedule is as follows: Jewel Cup Races: 3/22, 3/30, 4/5, 4/13, 4/26
Hoover Invitational 4/12, Scholastic Sprints 5/4, Stotesbury Cup Regatta 5/16-17. As soon as information is available, it will be announced and posted on website.

SRPO report by Barry Rogers included updates on Scholastic Sprints in May. At this point, he has all the volunteers he needs. More info next month.

Equipment Committee update: Motors currently in shop, possible expense of $1000. Barry suggests doing minimal repairs this year and purchasing new ones next year. We may also need to build racks for our oars. Coach has requested a workbench for future use. Casters for the dolly need replaced. We own 1 cox box and will need 4 more in the future.

Election of Officer's for 2003-04 Rowing Season: The slate of officer nominations were as follows: Kathy Schofield - Secretary, Jan Langnecker - Treasurer, Jackie Palmer - President. Leslie Thorpe motioned, second by Bob Shages, to elect these officers. Motion carried. Vice President position will be discussed again next month.

Uniform orders are due now. Contact Jim Dowd as soon as possible.

February 18, 2003

Jim Dowd presided over the Parent's Meeting, with 19 present.
Minutes from January's meeting were posted on the website. Motion by Kathy O'Neil, second by Paula Valliant, minutes approved.
Treasurer's Report: Leslie Thorpe presented the checking & savings information.
Jim Dowd is in contact with Wal-Mart Corp regarding the matching donation for the carwash.

Officer Nominations were sought for next year. Kathy Schofield is interested in Secretary. Jackie Palmer in VP. No volunteers/nominations were made for Treasurer or President. Nominations will be discussed again in March. Jim Dowd would like the new officers to "get their feet wet" during the Spring season, assuming the new positions in June. 

Equipment: Jim Dowd went over the purchases made by the Officers, upon recommendation of the Equipment Committee & Coach. Kaschper eight for $4750 from Dennison Univ., Eight Vortex Hatchet Oars for $1000 from Univ of Penn., Nike eight, refurbed, $7000 from Dirigo/Dibble.
We need to arrange transportation for each of these purchases. Jim Dowd will be in touch with ABC Company regarding delivery of boats. Paula Valliant thanked Officers and Equipment Committee for a job well done.

Night at the Races: We need approximate number of people by Friday, Feb 21. Money is due then also. Committees for the evening were discussed. All Parents are encouraged to participate by attending. 

Middle School Dance: Robert Shages reported on Dance. DJ & Police are secured. Publicity was discussed. Next month we will have sign up for chaperones, coolers, ice, etc. Parents and Rowers are encouraged to attend. 

Coach's Report: (Presented by Jackie Palmer for Coach Egnor) Coach is working to secure North Park Lake for possible rowing during March. Our locker from old boathouse needs to be moved soon. Vicky/Barry Rogers to coordinate. We will most likely be asked to help out at Boathouse in the event of flooding. Equipment needs relocated during these times. The Erg-a-thon will be conducted during practice on Wed, 2/19, from 5:45 - 7:15 pm at Washington's Landing site. Coach is looking for a body of water to hold several Saturday rowing practices during Mar/April. Denis Deet will be in touch with Coach with a few location suggestions. Anticipated practices are: Sun & Mon - off, Tues-Tank Rowing, Wed & Thur at HHS, Fri-Sat water rowing.

SPRO Report (Scholastic Parents Rowing Org.) (Presented by Vicky Rogers, for Barry) SPRO is starting a Parents Rowing Class. Info was passed around if interested. Jewel Cup dates are finalized and posted on website. Any one interested in being a Referee for Jewel Cups should attend an info meeting on Saturday March 1. Contact Barry Rogers for more info. Moraine Scholastic Sprints are May 4. We will once again be Support Staff, along with Pine Richland. More details in March. We can sell concession items this year, if interested. Raffle tickets are available, contact Barry Rogers. Lambert/Nagle from TRRA would welcome the opportunity to speak at an upcoming Parent's Meeting. 

Race Travel: Carole Mancini announced hotel info for Stokesbury Races, May 15-16. Wyndham Hotel at Franklin Plaza, phone 215-448-2000 for reservations. We have a block of 25 rooms reserved. Rooms will be released on May 1st. Please contact Hotel to secure your room from our block. Room rate is $79.99 per night. More info regarding travel next month.

January 7, 2003 

Jim Dowd opened the meeting by introducing current officers. Minutes from last meeting are on the website. Treasurer's report available at meeting. Leslie Thorpe reported that we have rec'd check from Insurance Company for damaged boat. 

Night at the Races: Tickets are available tonight and also from Jim Dowd. Event will be held on March 1, at Duncan Avenue Fire Hall, from 7-11 pm. Adults only. Committee volunteers:

March 21 HMS Dance: Susy Shages will head this event. Jackie Palmer is checking about hanging signs at HMS. DJ has been arranged. Parents and rowers are encouraged to attend.

Erg-a-thon Fundraiser discussed by Coach Egnor. He will work to secure Ross Park Mall for a Saturday in Feb. Rowers collect pledges and then row on machines set up at the mall. More details to follow.

Individual Fundraiser: Jean Bongiovanni will coordinate with Ted Tanski a Subway coupon sale. Various other fundraisers were discussed.

Equipment Committee Report: Barry Rogers asked for an allocation of $960 to purchase used oars. ***Nick Pruszynski motioned, Jean Bongiovanni seconded, motion carried. Parents may purchase oars for $100. The Rower's name will be placed on the oar. Barry also indicated that Ted Tanski has located a used boat in Philadelphia area. Price is $7000, including 8 oars. ***Chuck Thorpe motioned, seconded by Mary Hutz, to empower the three officers, upon recommendation of Coach Egnor and Equipment Chair, to spend up to our equipment savings plus reasonable estimation of spring fund raising efforts. Motion carried.

"New" boat purchase: Jim Dowd ordered the used 4 boat from Charlie Dibble. $2,000 payable now, $2000 upon delivery for spring season. 
Damaged boat: Charlie Dibble is to submit a bid to insurance company. If he wants it, Coach Egnor will help arrange transportation to him, hoping to use this good will toward our next purchase. 

Coach's Report: Coach Egnor has released Coach DJ Malone. He discussed the Race Schedule for Spring Season. It will be posted on the website. Coach also expressed concern over lack of equipment and recruiting for next year. Waiver Forms are due each year in January. Forms are available online.

Matching Donation Challenge: A challenge has been issued to the Parent's Association to raise $1,000.  If the parents raise the $1,000 it will be matched by another set of parents.  Checks can be sent to either Jim Dowd or Leslie Thorpe, marked for Challenge. 

Uniform orders are due to Jim Dowd ASAP!
Hampton Community Center meetings are Jan 16 and Feb 20 at the HHS Cafeteria. We are encouraged to attend. 
TRRA Raffle: Barry Rogers has 80 raffle tickets for sale thru our association, supporting Three Rivers Rowing Association. $5 each, contact Barry for a few tickets.

Terry Fuller presided over the meeting. Minutes from October Meeting are on the website.

Old Business:
The Fox Chapel Trailer is now ours. The title needs signed over, Jim Dowd will handle this as soon as possible.
Poinsettia/wreath order forms due to Laura McWilliams soon. Date & additional info to be posted on website. 
Optional clothing orders due November 15 to Gerry Dowd.
Wal-Mart matching money from car wash has not yet arrived.
Spring Dance scheduled for March 21 at HHS for Middle School students
Night at the Races dates discussed, March 1 date will be reserved by Terry Fuller. $100 fee plus $.40 per person.

Pgh Area Indoor Rowing Event scheduled for Feb 8, 2003
Winter practice will begin Dec. 4 with 20 min erg test
Mon & Wed at TRRA, Tues & Thurs at HHS directed by Coaches Stevenson & Egnor
Head of Charles future goal
Equipment Crisis: can't borrow boats at new Boathouse, lack of boats hurts future recruiting efforts, rowing in spring will be sporadic with equipment as of now. 
Wants Parent's Group to establish timeframe/plan to acquire more equipment
Suggested "Equipment Committee" be formed, volunteers were Barry Rogers, Ted Tanski, Ed Marlier and Rick Gratkowski to work with Coach. Committee Description will be on website.
Suggests we contact Dibble to hold 4man boat, approximately $3000-3500

New Business:
· Barry Rogers reported the new Boathouse is waiting for occupancy permit. TRRA is holding a raffle, asked us to participate by purchasing tickets after Thanksgiving.
Leslie Thorpe voiced her concern about the safety of 15-passenger vans & our use of them to transport the team during spring races.

The next meeting will be held December 7 morning, at the new Boathouse, so we can see the rowing tanks and pull the winning ticket for the raffle.

October 9, 2002

August minutes were distributed. Corrections were made. 
Treasurer's report by presented by Jim Dowd. Discussion followed.

Trailer purchased from Fox Chapel Crew. Title is still in TRRA's name; Jim is working with TRRA to have it changed. 

Poinsettia Sale - individual fundraiser to offset crew dues - coordinated by Laura McWilliams. Forms can be obtained from either Jim Dowd or Laura McWilliams. 

Subway, Krispy Kreme and Bruster's Ice Cream fundraisers for spring were discussed.

$1,000 raffle - approximately $600 have been turned in so far. Linda Giebel is still working with local businesses for selling dates at their establishments.

Night at the Races - postponed until February/March

Car Wash - Thanks to Clay and Terry Fuller for great job!

Boat slings - thanks to Jan & Mike Langnecker and Tim Schofield for making new slings for our boats.

Jim thanked Ed Marlier for helping with the locker at TRRA and assisting our Coach when needed.

The new Boathouse will host an open house on Saturday, November 9. More details to follow. We expect to occupy it after the fall season.

Barry Rogers suggests each family check the website often. He is updating it frequently. Barry recommends we communicate via the website to avoid virus problems. Calendars, announcements, schedules and various links are on the site.

HOTO Update - Congratulations to the Girl's Varsity, placing 16th! Paula Valliant will coordinate the publicity for announcing our successes. Amber Bierkan will help her distribute these articles.

Scholastic Head Race - October 19-20 - Freshmen, Novice race on Saturday, JV/V race on Sunday.

Damaged Boat - Mr. Dibble believes he can repair our boat, refurbishing it. He indicated Coach Egnor knows someone near Philadelphia that can also repair it. Jim believes the insurance company will "total" the boat. Jim has also been in contact with representatives from the Gateway Clipper Fleet.

Dues for the year were discussed. $425 per rower, with a $100 discount for 2nd family member. First installment due October 15. 

Uniforms/Optional Clothing forms were distributed. Orders need to be sent to Gerry Dowd.

Jim Dowd announced he is stepping down as President. He will be having valve replacement surgery in early November. Clay Fuller indicated he will discuss the situation with Terry, as he's not sure they want to move into the Presidency. 

The meeting was abruptly adjourned because of a fire alarm at the High School.

August 13, 2002 Minutes
16 parents present, Dowd's Residence

July minutes were distributed. Monthly minutes will now be posted on the website each month. 

Leslie Thorpe presented the Treasurer's Report.

FUNDRAISING UPDATES:
The Talbot Challenge is Aug. 22 at 6 pm. Barry Rogers is in charge of our booth. We will be selling hotdogs and water. Help is needed to grill and also sell raffle tickets.
Jim Dowd distributed raffle tickets to sell. Winner will be drawn on December 7; he is looking for volunteers to sell tickets at area businesses. Linda Giebel will coordinate this.
Terry & Clay Fuller are in charge of the Wal-Mart Car Wash on September 28. Barry Rogers has all the equipment, splitters, hoses, and buckets. More towels are needed.
November 16 is the tentative date for the Night at the Races. More info next month.
Golf Scramble is no longer viable for this year.

NEW RECRUIT INFO MEETING: Set for September 11 at the High School. Coach Egnor, Jim Dowd in charge of meeting. They would like all available current CREW to attend, in uniform if possible. Barry Rogers/Mary Hutz will send postcards to potential recruits from May at HMS.

EQUIPMENT: The newly refurbished 8-man Dirigo was delivered August 13, 2002. We are still waiting for the Fox Chapel trailer sale to be finalized. Thanks to Mike & Janet Langnecker for constructing the new slings for our boats.

FACILITY UPDATE: TRRA indicated it would be ready for us to occupy the Millvale facility this fall. Jim Dowd expects spring date instead.
TRAINING: Coach Egnor has outlined training for the upcoming season. The first practice for returning members will be September 7. 

NEW BUSINESS: 
Gerry Dowd explained the new additions to the uniforms.
Joe Raimondi informed us that the issue of fee usage by the School Board has been dropped. 
Website policies were discussed.

June 19, 2002 Minutes 

9 parents present

Jim Dowd is still in negotiations for the new trailer with Fox Chapel. More info in August.

4th of July volunteer sheet was passed around to sign up for 2 hour time slots and also donations of pop. We will have a booth on the 3rd and 4th. Pop purchased for this event will be reimbursed to parents.

Terry Fuller volunteered to coordinate the Car Wash at Walmart on September 28. 

Talbot Challenge info- August 22. Crew will be selling hot dogs and water. Ten members from our team will compete in the events. Tickets will be sold by our members and any ticket money will be kept by Crew. Volunteers will also be needed that evening to sell refreshments. Jim is also looking for a grill to use that night.

The Golf Course Scramble on October 19 was discussed. It was decided to wait until September to see if anyone wanted to chair this event.

Individual Fund raisers were discussed as well as the need for a Student Account Coordinator. Kathy O'Neill volunteered to chair this. It was also decided that each fundraiser have a coordinator to work with Gerry Dowd and Kathy O'Neill.

Leslie Thorpe outlined the costs associated with the dues each rower pays. Estimations for 2003 led us to establish an amount of $425 for each rower this season, again using three payments.

Coach Egnor's report of last season was discussed. His knee surgery will be early July and he will be in contact with Crew to work on the boats in late summer. 

New versus used oars were discussed. Jim Dowd is looking into both. He is also in contact with Dirigo regarding used boats.

New Coordinators are needed for the season as well as fundraising ideas. Mary Hutz volunteered to coordinate the Carpools once again.
Fundraising ideas: poinsettias from LMS, Krispy Kreme, Subway, Sheetz, middle school dance in the fall.

The next meeting of the HHS Rowing Parents Association will be in August at Jim Dowd's house.
